- About Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists
The Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists, is the coming together of dedicated professionals in the field of Paediatric Anaesthesia, with the aim of improving safety standards and providing a platform for sharing views and information. This association was formed in March 2006 at Mumbai. The first president was Dr Snehalata Dhayagude and the first Secreatary was Dr.Bharati Kulkarni . Over these past 10 years, the association has grown in strength and now has over 300 life members. The association also started annual conferences in the sub-specialty of paediatric anaesthesia and 7 conferences were held successfully, with the 8th national conference of IAPA coming up in Vellore in Jan 2016.
The ongoing aim of the association shall be to make paediatric anaesthesia safe for all children. The association shall strive to have basic infrastructure and guidelines in place for all places where children are anaesthetised, thus ensuring safety. To improve knowledge and skills of those practicing this sub-specialty periodic conferences and local CMEs shall be encouraged.
To improve training standards in Paediatric Anaesthesia, the society started a 'Post Doctoral Fellowship' training programme of one year. Two Institutes in India (Rainbow Hospitals, Hyderabad and GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore) have successfully completed the first course and the next course is on track.
The society also has ambitious plans to create guidelines in paediatric anaesthesia as well as start a quarterly newsletter.
