- About Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists
The Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists, is the coming together of dedicated professionals in the field of Paediatric Anaesthesia, with the aim of improving safety standards and providing a platform for sharing views and information. This association was formed in March 2006 at Mumbai. The first president was Dr SnehalataDhayagude and the first Secretary was Dr.Bharati Kulkarni. Over these past 11 years, the association has grown in strength and now has over 500 life members. The association also started annual conferences in the sub-specialty of paediatric anaesthesia and 9 conferences were held successfully, with the 10th national conference of IAPA coming up in Hyderabad in Feb 2018.
The ongoing aim of the association shall be to make paediatric anaesthesia safe for all children. The association shall strive to have basic infrastructure and guidelines in place for all places where children are anaesthetised, thus ensuring safety. It will also strive to improve knowledge and skills of those practicing this sub-specialty byconducting periodic conferences and local CMEs.
To improve training standards in Paediatric Anaesthesia, the society started a 'Post-doctoral Fellowship' training programme of one year. The following institutes in India - Rainbow Hospitals, Hyderabad and Bangalore, GKNM Hospital, Coimbatore, Chacha Nehru Balchikitsalay, New Delhi, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi – have been running the programme.
The society has been steadily working on creating guidelines in paediatric anaesthesia and also circulates a biannual newsletter.
