The Indian Association of Paediatric Anaesthesiologists was formed in March 2006 by a small group of Mumbai based paediatric anaesthetists. Its aims are to promote safety and high standards in the specialty through education and research. It advises other professional bodes on anaesthesia for children. Formation of Association: In the city of Mumbai paediatric anaesthesia was practiced mainly at B. J. Wadia Children's Hospital and Research Center and other Teaching Institutes where paediatric surgery department were set. Hence it was necessary to create platform to share, discuss various issues and do constructive work in paediatric anaesthesia. Hence Dr. Pradnya Sawant Chief of Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia Wadia Children's Hospital took initiative for formation of the association under the able guidance of Dr. V. M. Divekar, who is veteran anaesthesiologists and retired as Head of department and Dean of T. N. Medical and Nair Hospital.
